Mt Ruapehu, part of the
Tongariro National Park, is an active volcano and the highest point on NZ's North Island. It is home to winter ski fields, summer hiking & cycling trails, and was filmed as the land of Mordor & Mount Doom in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well.
